Frequently asked questions

How does a Bank Account UPI QR code work?
NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) specifies a standardized virtual address routing format: account_number@ifsc_code.ifsc.npci. When scanned with any UPI app, NPCI automatically routes the money directly into the linked bank account via instant IMPS/UPI rails, without requiring the payee to have a pre-registered VPA.
Do I need to have a UPI ID or UPI app installed to receive payments?
No! That is the primary benefit of Bank Account QR codes. Even if you only possess a traditional bank account without any UPI app installed on your phone, payers can scan this QR code using their payment apps and the money lands straight into your bank balance.
Is it safe to share or display my Bank Account Number and IFSC in a QR code?
Yes, completely safe. A payment QR code can only ever execute an incoming credit (deposit) to your account. Under RBI banking security guidelines, no entity can withdraw, debit, or access funds from your account simply by having your Account Number and IFSC. Remember that your UPI PIN, ATM PIN, and OTP are never needed to receive money.
Which types of bank accounts can receive funds via Bank QR?
Any active Indian bank account eligible for IMPS/NEFT can receive UPI transfers, including Savings Accounts, Current Accounts, Cash Credit (CC) accounts, and Overdraft (OD) accounts across public, private, and regional rural banks.
Which apps can scan and pay to a Bank Account UPI QR code?
Every official UPI-compliant application in India supports this NPCI format, including Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, CRED, Navi, and official mobile banking apps from SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, PNB, and others.
How quickly do payments reflect in my bank account?
Settlement is instantaneous, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The sender's account is debited in real time and your bank balance is credited within 2 to 5 seconds. You will receive an immediate SMS or app alert from your bank.
What is the correct format for an Indian IFSC code?
An IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is an 11-character alphanumeric code. The first 4 characters represent the bank (e.g. SBIN for State Bank of India, HDFC for HDFC Bank), the 5th character is always 0 (reserved for future use), and the last 6 characters represent the specific bank branch.
Can I set a fixed payment amount on my Bank QR code?
Yes. You can specify a fixed amount in the Amount (INR) field so customers do not have to type the payment value manually. For open scan-and-pay counters where billing amounts vary, leave the amount field empty.
Can I print this QR code as a counter standee for my shop?
Yes! The generated QR preview is styled after official Indian merchant standees ('UPI Accepted Here - Scan & Pay'). You can click Download Standee to save a high-resolution image, or click Print Standee to print a clean counter display card directly.
Is my bank account information stored on your servers?
No. UPITools.in operates completely client-side in your web browser. Your bank account number, IFSC code, and payee name are encoded into the QR code image locally on your device. Nothing is ever uploaded or stored on any server.
