UPI Payment Link Generator

Create a shareable upi://pay link with optional amount and note. Share via WhatsApp, SMS, or any messaging app.

Payment details

Generating a payment link does not process a payment or verify that the UPI ID exists. The payer must verify all details in their payment app before authorising.

Output

Your payment link

Fill in the form to generate your payment link

Open amount vs. fixed amount

An open-amount link omits the am field. The payer sees your name and UPI ID but must enter the amount themselves. Useful for shops, donations, or services with variable pricing.

A fixed-amount link includes an am= parameter. The payer's app pre-fills the amount. Useful for invoices, subscriptions, or product sales.

How to share on WhatsApp

  1. 1. Generate your payment link using the form above.
  2. 2. Click "Copy link" to copy the UPI URI.
  3. 3. Paste it into a WhatsApp message. On Android, it becomes a tappable link.
  4. 4. The recipient taps the link and their payment app opens with your details pre-filled.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UPI payment link and how does it work?
A UPI payment link is a deep-link URL adhering to the NPCI standard starting with upi://pay?.... When clicked on any smartphone, it prompts the operating system to launch the customer's preferred UPI payment app (such as PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm) with your UPI ID, name, and optional amount pre-filled, so they can complete the payment in a single tap.
What happens when a customer opens a UPI payment link on Android vs iPhone?
On Android devices, clicking a upi://pay link triggers the native Android App Chooser (Intent sheet), showing all installed UPI-enabled apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM. On iOS/iPhone, clicking deep links opens supported installed payment apps or the user's default configured app.
What happens if someone opens a UPI payment link on a laptop or desktop computer?
Desktop operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) do not run native mobile UPI payment applications. When opening payment links on a computer, users can simply scan the accompanying high-resolution QR code displayed on screen using their phone camera or payment app.
Can I share a UPI payment link on WhatsApp or SMS?
Yes! You can copy the generated upi://pay?... link or full payment text and send it directly via WhatsApp, SMS, Telegram, or Instagram DM. On mobile messaging apps, recipients can tap the link directly to open their payment app.
Can I add an invoice number or order ID into the payment link?
Yes! Use the Transaction Note field (which populates the tn= parameter) to include your invoice number, order ID, or customer reference. The payer will see this note on their confirmation screen, and it will appear in your bank account transaction remarks.
Can I embed UPI payment links in HTML emails and PDF invoices?
Yes. You can attach the link to a 'Pay Now' button or hyperlink (e.g. <a href="upi://pay?...">Pay via UPI</a>) inside PDF invoices, digital receipts, and billing emails.
What is the difference between a payment link and a QR code?
A QR code is a visual optical barcode designed for camera scanning (ideal for storefront standees, packaging, and print media). A payment link is a digital hyperlink designed for tapping on mobile screens (ideal for WhatsApp chats, SMS, emails, and web checkout). Both encode the identical NPCI payment payload.
Should I include a fixed amount or leave the amount open?
A link with a fixed amount is ideal for specific bills, fixed-price products, or invoices because it prevents customer underpayment or typing mistakes. A link without an amount is a reusable payment address where the payer inputs their own custom payment total.
Are there any platform fees or commissions for using this tool?
None. UPITools.in is 100% free with 0% commission. Furthermore, standard bank-to-bank UPI transfers have zero Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for customers and small merchants under RBI and NPCI guidelines.
Does generating a link verify that the recipient UPI ID is active?
No. Generating a link prepares a properly formatted URL locally in your browser. It does not ping banking servers. Always send a test payment of ₹1 to verify that your payee name and bank account details display correctly before distributing billing links.
